While robots can't substitute for a conventional vacuum in removing ground-in debris like metal screws or chunks of orzo pasta, they are excellent in sweeping dust, crumbs and hair from pets. The best models have smart navigation technology and a feature to avoid objects which allow them to navigate around toys, cords and other household obstacles.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a fantastic robot vacuum that comes with several smart features that make it easier to maintain. The automatic bin emptying feature is one of the most impressive features we've seen in a robotic vacuum. It works well on carpets and hard floors. It's also easy to set up and use, with the app guiding you step-by-step through the procedure. Another feature that is impressive is the ability to return to the spot where it began in our tests. It did this for 77 minutes on one cleaning before running out of battery.

In contrast to other robovacs we've test, the i3+ EVO has an automatic emptying bin that dumps debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base when it's full. The i3+ EVO can be prevented from overfilling thanks to a self-emptying container. However it must be manually empty at the end of each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's built-in dust bin can hold 2.4L of trash that is more than enough to get it through four or five cleaning sessions before you need to replace it.

The i3+ EVO, just like the i7, utilizes state-of-the-art floor-tracking sensors to create maps. It also lets you navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only keep one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7 can also make use of its map to create no-go zones as well as virtual barriers, but the i3+ EVO cannot.


The i3+ EVO does a better job of removing debris from the surface when compared to other robovacs that we have reviewed, but it is not the most effective in cleaning corners and edges. It's also more abrasive on furniture, despite being fairly silent. It moved chairs away from walls and caused some collisions with the sides of our bed, and also got stuck on cords and toys during our testing.

It also does well on carpets and scores the top score in our tests of navigation. The only snag is that it's noisier than many other models we test and it doesn't do as well in our owner satisfaction or predicted reliability tests.

The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin that is 770ml, which means that you won't need to empty it as often as other 2-in-1 robots. The 240-minute runtime is extremely generous when compared to other models we've tested. When the battery is low, it will automatically return to its dock where it recharges and then resumes cleaning from where it left off. You can manage the Q5 Pro via the app and also use voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

This is the first robot we've seen that has 3D mapping. This, along with other innovations, helps it excel in our vacuuming and mopping tests.  Robot Vacuum Mops  can plan cleaning schedules, create no-go zones, and view the status of the battery, among other things. The app is easy to use, but it doesn't support Apple HomeKit. The feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. Apple updated its footnote on its website in the beginning of November to reflect that the feature was delayed until 2025. HomeKit is not compatible with other robots, however Siri Shortcuts are.

3. TP-Link Tapo RV30 Plus

The Tapo RV30 Plus TP-Link robot vacuum cleaner is a great choice if you are looking for a machine that can mop as well and is priced reasonably. It features a sleek design and amazing features for the money. You can control it with the buttons on the machine, via the app or even using voice commands. The device has long battery life, and the vacuum container can be auto-emptied.

The TP-Link RV30 Plus is a excellent vacuum cleaner that can handle standard messes. It can also be used to gently mop on hard floors. It comes with a replacement mopping cloth and sweeping brush and an HEPA filter. It can be used in conjunction with a smart home hub, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for easy voice control. This model uses a dToF internal LiDAR sensor to create a map of your home, resulting in efficient cleaning routes. The iMop awed us with its analysis of coverage and navigation efficiency, and it was very good at avoiding obstacles, including furniture. It also has the ability to locate its way back to the base station which is a great benefit in case it runs out of battery during cleaning.

The spot cleaning mode lets you to clean a certain space on your floor. It can also be manually programmed to follow a specific route, which is helpful for narrow staircases or hallways. It did a decent job of cleaning carpets in our carpet cleaning review however, it had trouble with higher pile carpets and carpets. It is also able to automatically lift the mop pad once it encounters carpet, which is a great feature to not mop your carpets.

The iMop comes with an onboard dust bin and an water tank that is filled and refilled at the end of each cleaning session. The dust bin onboard can hold up to 2.5 Liters and only has to be empty every two cleaning cycles. The water tank is capable of handling about a dozen mopping sessions before it runs out. The iMop requires less maintenance and cleaning than the typical robot vacuum, which could be a big selling point for busy families.
